Amanda Van Sickle – Secondary Special Education

This is Ms. Van Sickle’s first year with us.

She brings a life passion of service to others and a commitment to helping people be the best versions of themselves.

Ms. Van Sickle is a nationally and state certified Emergency Medical Technician and says she probably would be working in the medical field if she wasn’t a teacher.

The small size and friendliness of Walkerville has impressed her.

“Everyone knows everyone,” she said. “And when you know students on a more personal basis, you’re better able to grow trust and help them see that they can come to you for support.”

Ms. Van Sickle says another reason she likes Walkerville, and the fact you can get to know your students well, is that every student is unique. “Understanding each student helps me to a positive role model,” she notes.

A career in teaching has been Ms. Van Sickle’s dream long before graduating from high school in Hart in 2009.

Along with many other good teachers, she had two teachers there– Mr. Taranko and Mr. Ramseyer – who especially stood out because both of them worked hard to connect with every student individually, set high expectations, and encouraged students to reach their potential.

As a young reader, Ms. Van SIckle enjoyed anything by Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary.

And in recalling one of her favorite songs from her high school days, it’s “My Wish” by Rascal Flats.
