Kendra Walker has been with our district for nearly 20 years. She started out as a 4th grade teacher.
“I appreciate very much how our staff cooperates to serve our kids – and I enjoy how our kids know and remember you as they move up through the grades, ” she said.
If Kendra wasn’t an educator, she’d probably be a full-time mom and grandma. And she no doubt would have time for her other main interests; sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, 4H and farming.
But whatever her role, you can always count on Kendra to be around young students. “I love their smiling faces, the hugs, their eagerness to learn, and seeing how they grow into confident readers,” she notes.
“This 1st grade class in particular is very special,” she said. “They all are very good at including each other when we’re in small or large group activities.”
It’s not surprising Kendra was attracted to the field of education. Both of her parents were teachers and she remembers being fascinated by their gradebooks as a youngster. She recalls that one of her favorite childhood books was “McElliot’s Pool” by Dr. Suess.
It’s also not surprising, given Kendra’s love for people, that one of her favorite songs is “Friends are Friends Forever” by Michael W. Smith.
